Award-winning Citadel Pictures to release a short film about loss and love
Nocturne's premise has taken on a topical hue

After the success of the award-winning period film about war poet Wilfred Owen The Burying Party, Director Richard Weston is set to release his new film Nocturne.
The same team have now turned their attentions to this modern day fable, which is now being offered to international film festivals.
Nocturne follows the story of Martin, a man whose personal and creative issues stifle his job and relationship with his wife, Claire. As the dust settles on their once life-changing romance, Martin becomes insular and Claire becomes restless. Determined not to settle for a humdrum life, Claire wants to break out of their bubble but collapses after an argument. She succumbs to a late cancer diagnosis, passing away very quickly afterwards.
On assorting her old belongings he finds letters that allude to an affair, sending Martin into an emotionally charged pursuit for the man she fell for.
The story reveals the effects of sudden bereavement and how we don't know what we have until it's gone. Whilst this film was produced prior to the Coronavirus pandemic, the emotions expressed in the film have taken on a fresh context.
Richard Weston starred, directed and wrote Nocturne, which not only gives an insight into the intense strain NHS is put under, but the complexities of human emotions and relationships.
“The story deals with young, impressionable people who experience love for the first time. As their lives move on, they harden and begin to long for the way things were.
"These days a lot of people are distracted by small things. I can be distracted by my phone or laptop. The potential is we can miss out on moments that are special to us. Martin doesn’t realise what he had until its gone. The film is about regret, love and loss. Music plays a huge part in our memory, and their shared fondness for it drives the story.” – Richard Weston, Writer and Director.
The soundtrack by Matthew Dwivedi is an exploration of one of Chopin's Nocturnes, which has been adapted to reflect the emotions prevalent.
The film was funded through an on online crowdfunding campaign and the search for funding for two futher scripts is ongoing. Citadel Pictures and further details of Nocturne and previous work can be found on their Facebook Page.
